The Impact of Monsoons on Gilbert Roofs
Arizona monsoons are brutal on roofing systems. The combination of intense UV degradation during the summer, followed by extreme winds, heavy rain, and sometimes hail, causes rapid deterioration of shingles, tiles, and underlayment.
Once the underlayment is breached, water easily finds its way into your attic, soaking your insulation and eventually collapsing your drywall ceilings.
Signs Your Roof is Leaking
- Brown or yellow water stains on your ceiling.
- Bubbling or peeling paint on the upper walls.
- A persistent damp smell in the house after a rainstorm.
- Missing, cracked, or sliding roof tiles visible from the ground.
What to Do When the Ceiling Leaks
- Contain the Water: Place buckets or large pots under the drip. If the ceiling is bulging with water, take a screwdriver and carefully poke a small hole in the center of the bulge to let the water drain into the bucket. This prevents the entire ceiling from collapsing under the weight.
- Move Valuables: Move furniture, rugs, and electronics away from the leak zone.
- Call for Mitigation: Once the rain stops, you need a roofer to fix the exterior, but you need a restoration company like Tri Point Services to handle the interior. Wet insulation will not dry on its own and will quickly grow mold. We remove the damaged materials and set up commercial dehumidifiers to dry the structural framing.
