What is Psychrometrics?
Psychrometrics is the science of drying. It involves managing the relationship between temperature, humidity, and airflow to remove moisture from structural materials. While Arizona's dry outdoor air is helpful, the inside of a flooded home creates its own humid microclimate.
The Drying Formula
Tri Point Services technicians manipulate three factors to dry a home:
- Extraction: Removing the physical liquid water (which is 1200 times faster than evaporating it).
- Airflow: Using high-velocity air movers to sweep away the boundary layer of moist air right at the surface of the wet drywall, encouraging evaporation.
- Dehumidification: Using LGR (Low Grain Refrigerant) dehumidifiers to pull the evaporated moisture out of the air, lowering the relative humidity and allowing the air to absorb more water from the walls.
